What to expect at your first visit

The first visit is called the "intake" session. This session is to gather information and to help you gain insight into whatever may be holding you back from your full potential. During this first visit, your therapist will ask you several questions. The therapist will also take notes and collaborate with you on a possible diagnosis. He would then recommend a certain number of sessions and their frequency.
Future sessions would involve much more analyzing of patterns in your life, and identifying helpful techniques to help you to build up a new way of thinking, feeling, and acting, and to overcome old habits which are no longer useful. While the therapist asks a lot of questions at the first visit, with subsequent visits it is you, the client, who has the opportunity to speak without fear of judgement and to be heard.
